Lots of fancy footwork at Bumbershoot
The Seattle Bumbershoot's dance lineup is small but select, featuring Joe Good Performance Group, Pacific Northwest Ballet and a "Bumberlesque Cabaret" at the Bagley Wright Theatre.
Special to The Seattle Times
Bumbershoot's dance lineup this year is small but select, spanning an eclectic mix of styles from ballet to burlesque.
All the shows are at the Bagley Wright Theatre unless otherwise noted.
The highlights:
• Joe Good Performance Group: This highly theatrical, San Francisco-based troupe performs "Wonderboy," which tells the story of an isolated but powerful soul through puppetry, music and dance (3:30 p.m. Saturday, 8 p.m. Sunday, 1 p.m. Monday).
• LAUNCH Dance Theater and NW Professional Dance Project: Two made-in-the-Northwest dance groups share a bill, presenting a solo and duet, respectively (1:30 p.m. Saturday).
• Pacific Northwest Ballet: Two pieces choreographed by company members will be shown alongside Twyla Tharp's crowd-pleasing "Nine Sinatra Songs" (5:30 p.m. Monday).
• Apocalypse in Coney Island: Strip tease and performance art meet in this show, billed as "A Bumberlesque Cabaret" (8:30 p.m. Saturday, 3:30 p.m. Sunday).
Look for dance shenanigans taking place outdoors, as well. Strange Fruit, an Australian company, does heaven-knows-what atop 15-foot poles on the Fountain Lawn several times every afternoon. And Seattle's own acornDance will create art site-specifically in the International Fountain itself periodically between 11 a.m. and 8 p.m. daily.
For a complete dance lineup, go to www.bumbershoot.org (click on "Music & Arts," and then "Dance").
