Bumbershoot 2008: Seattle's Music and Arts Festival
Aug. 30-Sept. 1. Three-day passes: $80 now through Aug. 15, and $100 thereafter (www.bumbershoot.org). Single-day tickets: $35 July 15-Aug. 15, $40 thereafter (www.bumbershoot.org and Ticketmaster outlets, and starting Aug. 2, at Western Washington Starbucks stores). Single-day tickets for seniors 65 and older, the disabled and children 6-10 with paying adult: $15 at the gates. Also performing at the Labor Day weekend festival are Del Tha Funky Homosapien, Lee "Scratch" Perry, Ingrid Michaelson, Saul Williams, Joe Bonamassa, M. Ward, the Walkmen, Asylum Street Spankers, Dan Deacon, Bedouin Soundclash, Tim Finn, Dale Watson, the Fall of Troy, Final Fantasy, MIDIval PunditZ, Blitzen Trapper, John Vanderslice, Orgone, Forro in the Dark, Ryan Bingham, Wreckless Eric & Amy Rigby, Arthur & Yu, Darondo and Nino Moschella, and Pacifika.
The literary program will feature graphic novelists Dan Clowes and Adrian Tomine; sci-fi legend William Gibson; a special edition of Starlee Kine and Arthur Jones' Post-It Note Reading Series; and authors Nathan McCall, Francesca Lia-Block and Kevin Sessums.
Dance and performance programs will include "Wonderboy," a new collaboration between San Francisco-based choreographer Joe Goode and New York-based puppeteer Basil Twist. Pacific Northwest Ballet will be featured, along with other regional and national companies.
Visual arts will include a photo and multimedia exhibit on the theme "The Power of One," as well as a Drawing Jam where festivalgoers can experience working in a classical art studio; a Seattle-Tehran Poster Show featuring Iran's top graphic artists; an exhibit of video work coordinated by the Henry Art Gallery; and a "One Pot" residency and exhibit of themed meals curated by Michael Hebberoy.
The "TPS Stage" at Center House will feature performances by regional theater companies.
Strange Fruit, a performing arts company from Australia, will fuse theater, dance and circus while perched atop 10-foot poles on the Center grounds.
Bumbershoot 2008 will also include three comedy stages, the One Reel Film Festival and the Flatstock poster exhibit.
