Pearl Jam, Death Cab for Cutie head to Bonnaroo festival

Pearl Jam and Death Cab for Cutie will represent the Northwest at the popular Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival in June in Manchester, Tenn.

Other artists in the festival lineup include Metallica, Kanye West, M.I.A., Talib Kweli, Lupe Fiasco, Ozomatli, Willie Nelson, Jack Johnson, the Raconteurs and My Morning Jacket. This is the seventh year for Bonnaroo, a four-day, multistage festival running June 12 to 15 on a 700-acre farm. Besides music, there are comedians, art, workshops and vendors.

The Lonely H debuts video on Spin site

Port Angeles hard-rock band The Lonely H just debuted its video "Hair" for Spin Magazine. Check it out at: www.spin.com/video/2008/02/080205_the_lonely_h.

Fresh out of Port Angeles High School, the band released its album, also called "Hair," this past July on the Seattle indie label The Control Group. Hear their music at www.myspace.com/thelonelyh.

It was just back in 2004 that The Lonely H first set stage at the Experience Music Project's Sound Off! competition, winning second place. (This year's competition kicks off this Saturday, Feb. 9, with the first semifinals: www.empsfm.org/programs/index.asp?articleID=1209).

Don't judge these rockers by their youth or their Hanson-like locks — their riffs and tortured vocals are way beyond their years.

Their next local show is an all-ages concert The Retrodoxy in Mount Vernon on April 18. And they are stopping by indie-music festival South by Southwest (SXSW).

"Human Giant" comes to Seattle

Stars from the MTV sketch comedy show, "Human Giant" are touring the next two months, in support of their DVD release and their second season premiere. They stop by Seattle on March 1 at The Triple Door.

The show will be a mix of improv, sketches and previews of their second season, featuring the comedians Aziz Ansari, Paul Scheer and Rob Huebel. The tour also drops by indie music festival South by Southwest (SXSW) for the Comedy Showcase on March 14.

The show's second season premieres March 11 at 11 p.m. on MTV, and will host guests like Will Arnett of "Arrested Development," Andy Samberg of "SNL" and Bill Hader of "Superbad." Pearl Jam members rock for Obama

The ever-politically active boys from Pearl Jam have turned out an election-version of a rock classic, this time titled "Rock Around Barack." Get it? Seattle band featured in Super Bowl ad

Seattle garage-punk band Boss Martians gained some Super Bowl fame when its song "Hey Hey Yeah Yeah" was chosen as the soundtrack for an E*TRADE commercial that played during the game.

Boss Martians is prepping for appearances at Austin's SXSW and readying the release of their new album, "Pressure in the S.O.D.O," due in May. Lead singer Evan Foster recorded and wrote a song for the album with none other than the godfather of punk himself, Iggy Pop. The song is called "Mars is for Martians."

You can catch the band Feb. 15 at the Rogue Hero in Bellingham, Feb. 29 at the Watertown Pub & Grill in Anacortes and March 7 at the Comet Tavern in Seattle.

Japan Nite comes to Seattle

Indie music festival South by Southwest (SXSW) is coming up in March in Austin. But if you can't go, one night of its lineup is coming to Seattle.

Japan Nite — featuring Japanese acts Petty Booka, The Emeralds, detroit7, The Beaches and Scandal — will perform at 8 p.m. March 20 at Seattle's High Dive, 513 N. 36th St. Cover is $10.

It's a mixed night. Petty Booka (www.myspace.com/pettybookatokyo) is a Tokyo country ukulele duo that sings in English. The Emeralds (www.myspace.com/theemeralds) is a classic rock and roll band from Yokohama. Detroit7 (www.myspace.com/detroit7) is a Tokyo garage rock band. The Beaches (www.myspace.com/comeonthebeaches) blend new wave, reggae and punk. Scandal (www.myspace.com/scandal4) describes itself as the "most powerful Japanese girlie Pop-Rock." All are worth a listen. They're fun and sure to rock the dance floor.
