Join your fellow zombies Friday at Fremont Outdoor Movies, where an attempt will be made to break the Guinness Book record for the largest zombie walk in the world (currently 4,000 — but surely Seattle can scare up more zombies than that). A screening of the fabulous zom-rom-com "Shaun of the Dead" will follow. The evening will also include a zombie-survival workshop, a book signing, live music, a canned-food drive and more. Registration for the zombie walk begins at 6 p.m. (yes, zombies have to register); the movie begins at 9:45. Suggested donation $5. Fremont Outdoor Movies, 3501 Phinney Ave. N., Seattle; see www.fremontoutdoormovies.com.
Jean-Luc Godard's rarely seen 1966 oddball noir "Made in U.S.A." screens at Northwest Film Forum this week in a new 35 mm print. The film, which stars frequent Godard muse Anna Karina, is a tribute to "The Big Sleep"; in it, Karina's character tries to uncover the fate of her murdered boyfriends, with labyrinthine complications along the way. Through Thursday at NWFF, 1515 12th Ave., Seattle; 206-267-5380 or www.nwfilmforum.org.
The popular Off Broadway musical "Forever Plaid" will celebrate its 20th anniversary with a nationwide big-screen event Thursday. The evening will include a live red-carpet introduction featuring members of the original cast, followed by a taped anniversary performance of the show and concluding with a live singalong. Several local theaters will host the event, including Pacific Place, Alderwood, Bella Bottega and Kent Station. Tickets are $18 and available at theater box offices or through www.fathomevents.com. For more info: www.foreverplaid.com.
And finally, just in time for the Fourth, the 1996 blockbuster "Independence Day" screens at midnight tonight and Saturday, with Will Smith leading an all-star cast as they battle alien invasion, as you do. Egyptian, 805 E. Pine St., Seattle; 206-781-5755 or www.landmarktheatres.com
