Today's new DVD releases go from war obsessions to shopaholic confessions. Star ratings are by Seattle Times movie reviewers, freelancers or wire services (for full reviews, search the movie title at seattletimes.com).
"Phoebe in Wonderland" (PG-13): Elle Fanning stars as a troubled 9-year-old in this enchanting trip down the rabbit hole of childhood. With Felicity Huffman, Patricia Clarkson, Bill Pullman and Campbell Scott.
"Waltz With Bashir" (R): Ari Folman's Oscar-nominated animated documentary uses hallucinatory images to explore the haunting memories of Israeli soldiers who participated in the Lebanon war of 1982. In Hebrew, with English subtitles.
"Alice's House" (not rated; for mature audiences): This Brazilian tale involves a housewife (Carla Ribas) living in a less-than-happy home, where female desires take a back seat to male entitlement. In Portuguese with English subtitles.
"Inkheart" (PG): Brendan Fraser, Helen Mirren, Paul Bettany and Jim Broadbent star in Iain Softley's wild-eyed tale about characters from a picaresque novel invading the real world.
"Confessions of a Shopaholic" (PG): Isla Fisher plays a sweet, clueless journalist who never met a price tag she didn't like in P.J Hogan's chick-lit flick, based on a series of novels by Sophie Kinsella.
"The Pink Panther 2" (PG): Steve Martin returns as bumbling Inspector Clouseau — this time becoming part of an international "Dream Team" trying to track down a runaway thief.
