"Transsiberian" released on DVD this week
A weekly listing of new DVDs.
Here are some of today's DVD releases. Star ratings are by Seattle Times movie reviewers, freelancers or wire services (for full reviews, go to www.seattletimes.com/movies).
"Transsiberian" (R): Brad Anderson's thriller takes Woody Harrelson and Emily Mortimer on a gripping train ride from Beijing to Moscow.
"When Did You Last See Your Father?" (PG-13): Anand Tucker's British rites-of-passage story focuses on a philandering doctor (Jim Broadbent) and his much-mocked son (Colin Firth and Matthew Beard, who plays the son as a teenager).
"Get Smart" (PG-13): Steve Carell steps into Maxwell Smart's shoe-phone in this update/origin story of the 1960s TV spy comedy.
"A Christmas Story": The holiday classic, with Darren McGavin and Peter Billingsley, has been repackaged to mark its 25th anniversary.
"The Gregory Peck Film Collection": The boxed set includes "To Kill a Mockingbird," "Cape Fear," "Arabesque," "Mirage," "Captain Newman, M.D." and "The World in His Arms."
"Planet of the Apes": The franchise celebrates its 40th anniversary with a Blu-ray boxed set packing all five movies released from 1968-73: "Planet of the Apes," "Beneath the Planet of the Apes," "Escape from the Planet of the Apes," "Conquest of the Planet of the Apes" and "Battle for the Planet of the Apes."

Saturday release
"Kung Fu Panda" (PG): Jack Black gets all fuzzy-wuzzy as a panda who wants to become a kung-fu master in DreamWorks' computer-animated feature. The voice cast also includes Dustin Hoffman, Ian McShane, Angelina Jolie, Lucy Liu, Jackie Chan, Seth Rogen and David Cross.
