New DVDs | "Paranoid Park," "The Visitor," released this week
Tuesday's DVD releases include "Paranoid Park," "The Visitor," "The Happening" and "You Don't Mess With the Zohan."
Here are some of today's DVD releases. Star ratings are by Seattle Times movie reviewers, freelancers or wire services (for full reviews, go to www.seattletimes.com/movies).
"Paranoid Park" (R): Gus Van Sant's drama, filmed in Portland, stars Gabe Nevins as a teen skateboarder who lands in the middle of a tragedy.
"The Visitor" (PG-13): Director Thomas McCarthy movingly follows a lonely widower (Richard Jenkins) as he connects with an immigrant couple (Haaz Sleiman and Danai Gurira) illegally occupying his rarely used Manhattan apartment.
"The Happening" (R): Mark Wahlberg and Zooey Deschanel go on the run after people start committing suicide en masse in M. Night Shyamalan's disaster/horror flick.
"You Don't Mess With the Zohan" (PG-13): Adam Sandler plays an Israeli counterterrorist who dreams of becoming a great New York hairstylist in this harebrained comedy.
"Ray Harryhausen Collection": The set revives the stop-motion animated creatures of "The 7th Voyage of Sinbad," "20 Million Miles to Earth," "It Came From Beneath the Sea" and "Earth vs. the Flying Saucers" — fantasy films from the 1950s.
"Sleeping Beauty": Disney's slumbering princess is back in a 50th-anniversary package.
"The Three Stooges Collection, Volume Four: 1943-45": The slapstick continues with Curly, Larry and Moe.
"Touch of Evil" 50th-anniversary edition: Charlton Heston stars in Orson Welles' film-noir classic about crime and corruption along the U.S.-Mexico border.
