Snakes on a marketing blitz

Experiencing "Snakes" overload? You ain't seen nothing yet.

As part of building buzz, the film's producers gave designers carte blanche to create custom "SoaP" logos and market them on items at Café Press (www.cafepress.com). The result: 1,090 designs slapped on items ranging from shirts and mugs to bumper stickers and baby bibs. If you're into the sparkly stuff, visit the New Line Cinema store, where $3,900 gets you the 18-karat gold "Snakes on a Plane" pendant (with diamonds; find the link at www.newline.com.) If you're feeling less flush, just stick with the $1,800 18-karat "SoaP" dog tags.

Book lovers needn't feel left out. Take a peek at "Snakes on a Plane: The Guide to the Internet Sssssensation." Coming soon: The movie novelization and comic books.

More online snake oil:

• You can check out the origins of the "SoaP" phenomenon, with Josh Friedman's celebratory blog entry, almost exactly a year ago, when film producers backtracked and returned to original title "Snakes on a Plane." (Note: This site includes profanity. Lots of it. Go to: hucksblog.blogspot.com/2005_08_01_hucksblog_archive.html, and scroll down to Aug. 17, 2005.)

• Get a call from Samuel L. himself at www.snakesonaplane.com.

• Ready for that theme song? You can also find that at www.snakesonaplane.com. Click on "Snake Kit," then "Soundtrack" to play the video.
