Posted by Janet I. Tu

Microsoft Alumni Foundation announced the winners of its Integral Fellows Award Wednesday night at the foundation's celebration dinner.

The Integral Fellows Award program honors "former Microsoft employees who have used their talents, time, and resources to make a meaningful difference in the daily lives of others," according to the foundation's news release. Award winners each receive an unrestricted $25,000 grant for their nonprofit organizations and access to other other alumni with skills to help their nonprofits.

The winners of the 2011 awards are:

  • Oliver Hurst-Hiller, chief technology officer and executive vice president of DonorsChoose.org, which allows public school teachers to post requests for donations to purchase supplies for classroom projects, and for the public to donate online to any of those projects.
  • Tom Ikeda, founder and executive director of Densho, dedicated to preserving the testimonies of Japanese Americans incarcerated during World War II.
  • David Risher, co-founder of Worldreader, which works to make digital books available to those in the developing world.
