First Windows Phone Mango hits market Thursday

Posted by Janet I. Tu

Fujitsu has announced that it's bringing its Windows Phone Mango handsets to market Thursday in Japan.

The new Windows Phone IS12T smartphone from Fujitsu Toshiba Mobile Communications will be available in Japan through KDDIand Okinawa Cellular Telephone, Fujitsu said in its news release.

The phone, which comes in three colors, features 32 GB of built-in memory, a 13.2 megapixel camera, 59-mm thin design, and water- and dust-resistant technology.

The Mango update to Windows Phone 7 -- officially called Windows Phone 7.5 -- includes features such as an integrated People Hub, where users can check their friends' Facebook and Twitter updates without having to launch the applications separately; and Office Hub, which can read Office documents created on PCs without modification.

The timing of the Fujitsu launch is a bit odd since it was only Tuesday that Microsoft announced it was accepting and certifying Mango apps through its App Hub.

No other carrier, including Nokia, which earlier this year announced it would be using only Windows Phone as its smartphone operating system going forward, has announced when it will be launching their Mango handsets. But Microsoft has said that Mango phones will be available before the end of the year.

Microsoft also has not specified when current Windows Phone users will be able to upgrade to Mango.

The Mango phone launch in Japan was also reported earlier today by Ars Technica.
