True facts about the Microsoft blog: Steve Jobs sneezed

Posted by Sharon Pian Chan

The reader question bag is looking a bit dry and angry this morning. It's my last day, so I care as much as the honey badger right now.

So instead of answering questions, I will share with you true facts about running the Microsoft Pri0 blog.

True fact: The best headline I could ever write to get clicks is "Steve Jobs" anything. I wrote a throwaway blog item about how an iPad app developer got a phone call from Jobs explaining why he was turned down. Scads of traffic.

True fact: Twitter can be a useful reporting tool, such as this Twitter Q&A with former Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck about his Windows Phone and iPad. Seriously though, Twitter is now a vital part of reporting.

True fact: People who comment on this blog are not necessarily the people who read this blog. This pie chart below represents the people who comment on this blog.

True fact: Sometimes posts will attract great reader comments, such as the thoughtful comments in this story about the end of Microsoft's antitrust saga. (Although technically this was a front page story for The Seattle Times, not a blog item.)

True fact: No matter what I do, I will never be able to compete for Web traffic with my spouse, Danny O'Neil, who writes the Seahawks blog for The Seattle Times. Until I start reporting about Steve Jobs.

True fact: If you click on this honey badger video, there is foul language. The honey badger is also the code name for a Bing software update. (Video courtesy of Youtube user Czg123.)

Update 11:36 a.m.

True fact: This is a snapshot of who reads the Microsoft Pri0 blog, according to a poll we ran in April 2009 when I first started.

Trust me Sharon, the amount of traffic for the Seahawks blog has nothing to do with the fact your spouse Danny writes it.  Posted on July 30, 2011 at 5:13 PM by dawg156. Jump to comment
Isn't the "True" part of "True fact" rather redundant? If we can, let's go find some "False facts."  Posted on July 30, 2011 at 6:49 AM by 123wxyz. Jump to comment
I own Apple stock. Proud of it, too. It proves I'm smarter than any M$ employee or PC user.  Posted on July 29, 2011 at 8:37 PM by Joe Chip. Jump to comment
