Microsoft makes an iPad app for Bing

Posted by Sharon Pian Chan

Microsoft has built an iPad app for Bing.

The free app brings Bing's photo-intense search experience to the tablet device made by Microsoft competitor Apple. Microsoft announced the new app in a blog post Thursday.

Some features in the new Bing app:

  • A photo montage of popular search trends
  • A local movie times search, that includes videos of movie trailers
  • Bing Maps
  • Weather forecasts

Microsoft does not have a Windows-based tablet that is competitive with Apple's iPad, although Microsoft has said the next version of the Windows operating system will be optimized for portable devices like tablets.

Meanwhile, the Bing team has gone OS agnostic, first with an iPhone app and now an iPad app designed to capture as much search traffic as possible to compete with search leader Google.

To download the app, go to the Apple iTunes store.
