Posted by Sharon Chan

BARCELONA, Spain -- Redmond-based Mobisante will take home a Global Mobile Award for Best M-Health Innovation at Mobile World Congress. The award was announced on Tuesday.

The company won the award for MobiUS, an affordable smartphone-based ultrasound imaging system.

Sailesh Chutani, chief executive officer of Mobisante, is a former senior director with Windows Mobile at Microsoft. The company is funded by WRF Capital.

Judges gave these comments about Mobisante's technology, "A highly innovative product, which has the potential to make a very real difference in healthcare to many disadvantaged groups. $1 a scan -- amazing ability for this solution to reduce the cost of ultrasounds. This product has taken the best of mobile and made it into a life saving device."
