Windows Phone 7 shipped 2 million

Posted by Sharon Pian Chan

Microsoft shipped 2 million copies of Windows Phone 7 to mobile phone makers, the company said today.

The company last gave an update in late December, saying 1.5 million phones had been shipped from phone makers to mobile operators around the world.

In comparison, Google said about 200,000 Android phones are activated daily. Google gives away the Android operating system free while Microsoft sells the Windows Phone 7 software.

The shipment number was first reported by Bloomberg News and confirmed by Microsoft.

The company released a statement saying customer satisfaction is more important than sales success. "Sales are an important measure of success, but for a new platform customer satisfaction and active developer investment can be even more important leading indicators of long-term success," the statement said. It goes on to list some customer satisfaction numbers -- that 93 percent of customers are satisfied with their Windows Phone.
