Microsoft and Yahoo combine search advertising

Posted by Sharon Pian Chan

Bing and Yahoo have combined their search advertising, Microsoft said today.

Microsoft's ad platform, adCenter, will run all the paid search listings for Bing and Yahoo search results in the U.S. and Canada. These are the ads that turn up on the right column in search results.

Bing already runs non-paid search results for Yahoo, the results that show up in the center of the page when you do a search.

The crossing of the streams is part of the Microsoft-Yahoo search partnership to create a stronger competitor to Google. Here is our earlier story on why this agreement is important to the search and advertising world.

"This is exciting news for advertisers looking to reach a broader audience that comprises almost a third of online users in the U.S. and Canada," Satya Nadella, senior vice president for Microsoft's Online Services division, wrote in a company blog.
