Microsoft builds Bing app for Android phones

Posted by Sharon Pian Chan

Microsoft has built a Bing app for Android mobile phones.

Android is a mobile operating system built by Microsoft competitor Google. The app is available only for Android phones that run on Verizon's wireless network.

The search application features Bing's photo home page and also has visual search and voice search features. Here's a quick run down.

  • You can scroll through past Bing home page images, as you can on the website.
  • The visual search feature turns up image icons rather than text links. For example, a search for Major League Baseball players would turn up photos of the players rather than their names.
  • Voice search can be accessed by a microphone icon, and the results are automatically narrowed to local results.
  • The Bing app also has a mapping feature that can target your location, similar to Google's mobile map application.

Here is the Microsoft blog announcement about the Android app.
