FAM: Microsoft says economy is getting much better

Posted by Sharon Pian Chan

Microsoft was optimistic about the state of the economy at its annual Financial Analysts Meeting on Thursday morning.

"We wouldn’t say we have recovered, but we would tell you we see things getting much better," said Chief Operating Officer Kevin Turner.

Turner said Microsoft got through its economic downturn because of its diverse customer and product base. I can't draw a pie on the fly, but here is the breakdown of Microsoft's customer base:

  • Enterprise (large corporations) — 36 percent
  • Small and medium-sized businesses — 20 percent
  • Consumer and online — 17 percent
  • Computer makers (also known as original equipment manufacturers or OEMs) — 27 percent

You probably don't want to read a list of the full product line-up here, but the PowerPoint slides on product road map are at Microsoft's investor relations site. You can also watch a Webcast of today's presentations at the site.
