WPC: Microsoft Outlook gets connected to Facebook

Posted by Sharon Pian Chan

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Microsoft made Outlook more socially savvy today, adding Facebook to its Outlook Social Connector.

The connector pulls information from social networks into Microsoft's e-mail program so you don't have to leave Outlook to find contact information stored on a Facebook page. Also, when you send an e-mail to someone you can see the recipient's latest status updates. You can also invite contacts directly in Outlook to join your social networks.

Previously the connector worked only with the LinkedIn network. Today, the company on its Office blog said it has added Facebook and Windows Live Messenger.

It was also previously available only for Outlook 2010, which came out in the spring. It now also works with Outlook 2003 and 2007.

People who are already on Outlook 2010 will get the new features through a Microsoft update.

If you use Outlook 2003 or 2007, here is where you can download the Outlook Social Connector.
