Microsoft has sold 150 million copies of Windows 7

Posted by Sharon Pian Chan

Microsoft says it has sold 150 million copies of Windows 7.

The company called it the fastest-selling operating system in Microsoft history.

The new operating system came out in October. Inside Microsoft, many have called it everything Vista should have been. Vista was the operating system that came before Windows 7, which was panned for its performance. Many customers stuck with the older version Windows XP.

The Windows operating system is a flagship product for Microsoft. In the most recent quarter that ended March 30, the Windows division made $4.4 billion in sales and $3 billion in operating income. Total sales for the company in the quarter were $14.5 billion.

The company announced the 150 million milestone in a blog item.
