New way to search recipes on Microsoft Bing

Posted by Sharon Pian Chan

Microsoft's search engine Bing just rolled out a new feature to search recipes across the Web.

Bing will crawls cooking sites such as myrecipes.com and MSN's delish.com for recipes when you search for a term such as "salmon." It pulls in images, user review ratings, as well as a calorie and fat indicator. It's handy for those who still plan to keep their New Year's resolution about losing weight.

It is not comprehensive. For instance, "kung pao chicken" does not return a Bing recipe page. Neither does "bacon explosion."

While the Bing blog says it is pulling from a popular site like epicurious.com, a few searches I ran did not return any recipes from the popular site, the Web partner for food magazine Bon Appetit. (RIP Gourmet.)

Here is the Microsoft blog posting about the new feature, which includes a video of an engineer in an apron. And here is a screenshot of what the "salmon" page looks like.
