Microsoft goes to Vegas for CES

Posted by Sharon Pian Chan

Happy New Year! Thank you for joining us on another year of Microsoft news. I have no predictions or roundups, just a clean slate and a single resolution: Approach work with a sense of fun rather than grim determination. Be Merry, not Frodo.

The first test of that resolution is the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas this week. Here's what's on the slate, and here is my story that ran in today's paper on what you can expect from Microsoft. Our technology columnist Brier Dudley also has a roundup of CES trends.

Wednesday: Microsoft Chief Executive Steve Ballmer will be taking the stage to deliver his keynote and the Microsoft's consumer agenda for the year. A smattering of news conferences are scheduled, and maybe there will be some interesting news. Stay tuned to my Twitter feed at www.twitter.com/sharonpianchan if you want my live coverage of Ballmer's keynote.

Thursday: Show begins. Ford Chief Executive (and former Boeing CEO) Alan Mulally will be talking about cars and computing, most likely about Sync, which is a Microsoft in-car product. Paul Otellini, head of Intel, will also give a speech. Lots of action on the show floor.

Friday: Nokia does the keynote speech, I'll be checking out the show floor for the latest cool gadgets, electronics and giant television screens.

Anyone else here want to share your 2010 resolutions?
