Want to lose 10 pounds? Try Microsoft's Bing and Wolfram Alpha

Posted by Sharon Pian Chan

Want to lose 10 pounds? Microsoft's Bing and Wolfram Alpha can help.

Microsoft's search engine Bing is integrating search results from Wolfram Alpha, a search engine that wants to make all systematic knowledge computable online. Instead of just returning links, Wolfram Alpha has built-in calculators to return answers.

Nutrition tools such as a Body Mass Index calculator and comparing nutritional content of different foods will be integrated in to Bing search.

Some math functions will also be integrated with Bing, such as the ability to graph a math equation. For instance, you might want to write a math equation that describes the rate of change of your waist line depending on caloric intake.

It's not live yet -- but here is a screenshot from the Bing announcement about it. I just tried to run the search for "BMI calculate" and I did not get the results in this screenshot.
