Posted by Sharon Pian Chan

Windows Phones are now available with today's launch of Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.5 and the initial reviews are scathing.

Gizmodo says, "There's no excuse for this."

Engadget calls it "very much a nip-tuck job -- just as every Windows Mobile version in recent memory has been."

Chief Executive Steve Ballmer has acknowledged that Microsoft screwed up with the development of Windows Mobile.

The new features include a Windows Marketplace for Mobile, Microsoft's answer to the iPhone App Store and a redesigned Web browser. AT&T, Verizon and Sprint are all selling phones with the new software.
