Here come Microsoft's Windows 7 ads
Posted by Sharon Pian Chan
When you think Vampire Diaries, you think operating system, right? Microsoft is confirming an earlier Advertising Age report that the television ad campaign for Windows 7 begins tonight on the CW's premier of "Vampire Diaries." The next version of Microsoft's flagship product is scheduled to launch on Oct. 22.
The ads feature a girl named Kylie, who has appeared in previous Microsoft ads for Windows Live Photo Gallery, according to Ad Age's report. In the new Windows 7 ad, Kylie points to positive reviews for the software, then quickly assembles a slide show featuring the most breathless quotes from reviewers, and images of kittens with marshmallows and unicorns.
Disclaimer: The ad features a quote from an article from The Seattle Times: "Every computer pro I've talked to loves the software." This was lifted from a story written by our tech columnist Brier Dudley about Windows 7, who also said in the story, "If you're perfectly happy with your PC, don't bother." (As in, don't bother upgrading to Windows 7.)
Here's a video of the 30-second spot.
Here is Kylie's earlier commercial, in which she uploads a photo of her fish Dorothy at the ripe age of 4 1/2. Kylie was 4 1/2, not the fish.
