Posted by Sharon Pian Chan

Microsoft is laying off 27 employees in Redmond and Bellevue, according to the Washington State Employment Security Department.

The departmentreceived a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) from the company about the layoffs, which are scheduled to take effectNov. 1.

The company said in January it was planning to eliminate 5,000 jobs over the next 18 months, while still creating 2,000 to 3,000 new jobs. After two rounds of cuts this year, Microsoft said it was mostly, but not completely, done with the layoffs. Here is the story about May's round of layoffs. Here is our story when the layoffs were first announced in January.

Update 2:59 p.m.: Microsoft spokesman Lou Gellos saidthe company is making cuts across the country, but he did not elaborate on how many more jobs in the U.S. were affected.

"I can confirm that part of our effort to reduce costs and increase efficiencies involved 27 job eliminations here and in other regions across the country. While job eliminations are always difficult, we are taking these necessary actions to realign our resources against our top priorities."
