"Last Rights" by Jeremy Enigk (from Damien Jurado's "Caught In the Trees" album)

Three things I love about this song: First, the the full-circle aspect of Damien Jurado having his music covered by Jeremy Enigk, Redmond's emo rock king. Enigk of course is the famous front-man of the band Sunny Day Real Estate, who introduced Jurado to Sub Pop back in the '90s, the label where SDRE/Enigk and Jurado released albums. So this version of "Last Rights" (2008) is a cool blast from the past. Second, I appreciate the non-cheesy '90s-ness of Enigk's vocals on it, how they're satin-smooth in a way local rock bands used to favor, and now don't — I'm thinking of SDRE, Super Deluxe, the Posies. I wish that style never went away. Third, the song itself is just so lovely, that repetitive melody going in cycles, sounding like something you already know even though chances are, you don't.
