"At War With Myself" by Starlito

Besides Kanye's record, my favorite rap album last year was "Renaissance Gangster" by Nashville, TN, rapper Starlito. Download it here. It was a perfect marriage between Atlanta DJ/producer Burn One's airy, futuristic-southern beats, and Starlito's ground-out, just-waking-up-from-a-nap vocal tone.

Starlito's mixtapes and albums since have lacked that lightning-in-a-bottle quality, but contain enjoyable tracks. That's the case with "@ War w/Myself," freely downloadable here. My fave songs on it are Burn One's "Like Mike" and "No Other Way Around," and contributions from producers Lil' Lody, Celsizzle and Coop: "At War With Myself," "Clouded Judgment," and "People in the Streets" feat. Young Buck.
