When UW student duo Beat Connection isn't buying old-school sports clothing at Officials Vintage in Fremont, the fresh-faced purveyors of beachy dance pop known to their professors as Reed Juenger and Jordan Koplowitz are doing music business with British people.
London labels Moshi Moshi/Tender Age will re-release Beat Connection's "Surf Noir" EP (2010) this year, a deal that's been blogged here and elsewhere, but apparently is now official.
London DJs are also taking note: these guys are playing Beat Connection on BBC Radio 1, and Hackney/Coventry producers Dreamtrak and Young Montana remixed the track "Silver Screen," the most pop-forward moment on "Surf Noir." Word on the street is the original song will be packaged with the remixes and a new track called "Space Vacation," and released as a single March 1st.
Dreamtrak makes "Silver Screen" less gauzy, more bright, mostly through the addition of new keyboards and a fake horn section. Young Montana atomizes it through some digital sieve, adds metallic percussion, and makes the vocals sound like they're coming alternately from children and senior citizens instead of young Seattle man Tom Eddy.
