Have you read the 33 1/3 book on Pixies' "Doolittle"?
Posted by Andrew Matson
"Doolittle" is a 1989 album by alternative rock act Pixies, who'll play it in its entirety Nov. 12th and 13th at the Paramount.
Though generally considered an inadvertent blueprint for angry, anti-mainstream pop-rock to come, "Doolittle" is best appreciated by itself, and in heavy doses. For an extra-concentrated shot, listen while reading Ben Sisario's "Doolittle"-themed entry into the 33 1/3 series (small books about big albums).
I'll set aside some words for Pixies' dark 'n' catchy, loud 'n' quiet avant-pop masterpiece soon in an official preview, but no matter what I write, it won't be as complete as Sisario's book.
Sisario's "Doolittle" can be purchased cheaply at Amazon, or, for a more intimate experience, in person and slightly-more-expensively at Elliot Bay Book Company.
