Too early to make a Capitol Hill Block Party battle plan?
Posted by Andrew Matson
Nope, sure isn't. For fans of scenester music (don't feel like calling it "indie" today), Capitol Hill Block Party is hands down the best city festival in America this summer, rivaled only by Chicago's Pitchfork Music Festival, which it beats by virtue of how perfect 10th & Pike is for party central. That intersection wants to party so bad.
All year leading up to CHBP, every time there's a concert at Neumo's and also across the street at the Comet, tension builds in the intersection. Party tension. Cars are there, cops are there, bikes are there...but no party. You can stand in the middle of the street and try to party at 10:00 p.m. on a Saturday night, but you'll just die or get arrested. And so the party tension builds all year. Builds, builds, builds. And then breaks for Block Party like a monsoon rain cloud.
Which bands will you see? What time conflicts are totally killing you? (D. Black, Fatal Lucciauno, and Spaceman at the same time as Sonic Youth?! I have to pick Sonic Youth, but it kills me to do that...) How angry are you that your 20-year-old younger brother can't go with you to watch Truckasauras because it's in a 21+ environment (for the second year in a row!)?
Full schedule after the jump. Bolded shows are ones I think will be best. My plan's not set in stone, but you better believe I'll hit this thing hard. I'm bringing a video fleet, a notepad, and gallons of potable water.
