Concert preview: The B-52s at Woodland Park Zoo Wednesday

Posted by Andrew Matson

What about fun? Does anyone remember fun?

It's hard to think of a more cartoony thing to do than see the B-52s at the zoo.

It also sounds like the perfect accompaniment to sunshine, watching Fred Schneider, Kate Pierson, Cindy Wilson, and Keith Strickland play their outsized day-glo pop at Woodland Park Zoo for Zoo Tunes, the concert series where the audience is mostly families sitting on blankets.

The B-52s songs from 20 30 years ago ("Rock Lobster" and "Planet Claire," for example) are still incredibly weird, and since they were always kitschy and dated-sounding, aren't any more so now. The band's new material still sounds New Wave-y, kind of like the Cars.

The B-52s with The 88, 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, Woodland Park Zoo, 5500 Phinney Ave. N; $27, (www.zoo.org/zootunes).
