Munenori Kawasaki makes himself heard at Mariners camp
We've heard lots of talk about how Japanese infielder Munenori Kawasaki has brought "energy" to his on-field drills with the Mariners. To see him in action is quite the spectacle. I've heard more than one person refer to him as a Japanese version of Brendan Ryan, at least from a hyper-kinetic sense.
Well, now you can see what we've all been talking about.
Take a look at the video above and see for yourself. Kawasaki is like this all of the time. Can he play baseball at the MLB level once the games begin? We'll have to just wait and see. But for now, to say he's fitting in with his new club is an understatement.
He's part of the show for those teammates and anyone standing by the field watching.
The Latin American players have been teaching him words in Spanish, many of them of the curse variety. But you can see, from his using the Spanish word for "ear" in reference to Carlos Guillen (we're not sure why, though Guillen's ears do seem to protrude out from under his cap), he's not above a little humor.
Lots of personality there. Whenever I see Ichiro standing near Kawasaki on the field, Ichiro is always smiling and laughing as well. That can't hurt.
