Jesus Montero took some more batting practice today and when he got warmed up, the balls began flying out at a regular rate. This fourth day of workouts saw another group of pitchers get their second go-arounds in the bullpen. All eyes were again on Hisashi Iwakuma, with Japanese reporters lined up and jotting down details of his every pitch.

Mariners manager Eric Wedge re-iterated that there really isn't all that much to see from pitchers throwing at this early stage in camp.

"Again, now we're working through these guys a second time around and we'll look at them a third time around in these next couple days in regard to their bullpens,'' Wedge said. "Iwakuma was good. Again, like I mentioned the other day, he's on-line, his arm is working good. He's delivering the ball to home plate well. We're still not to the point where we really evaluate. We just pay attention. Watch them throw. Get a feel for their deliveries and how the ball is coming out of their hands.''

Wedge said it will be another three or four days before he gets George Sherrill a bullpen session. As we mentioned the other day, Wedge knows that Sherrill, being in his mid-thirties, only has a certain number of bullets to fire each year. He doesn't want to waste any in spring training until he has to.

"I'm just really aware of the workload he's had and the fact that he is a left-hander,'' Wedge said. "Those guys, as you know, as a manager, you can get them up every night if you want to. So, there's got to be a certain discipline there in regard to how you use those guys. Especially with George being a veteran guy that you know you're going to go to.''

Wedge also spoke about new infielder Munenori Kawasaki and how he's working to get to know his fellow infielders and the system over here. Kawasaki has shown a high degree of energy during drills, often bouncing about on his toes as he waits for his turn at groundballs, or murmuring out loud to himself after making a play.

Wedge compared him to Brendan Ryan and the hype-like energy he brings.

"I don't know who's going to get the last word in edgewise between those guys,'' Wedge quipped, "but it's going to be fun to watch.''
