Hong-Chih Kuo, others, throw bullpen sessions under watchful Mariners eyes

You may have read our story in today's paper about Taiwanese relief pitcher Hong-Chih Kuo, ex of the Dodgers. As you'll know from the story, the Mariners are keeping a close eye on his bullpen sessions to ensure that he repeats his arm slot and mechanics so as to avoid a repeat of "the yips" that plagued him in two of the past three seasons.

Mariners manager Eric Wedge was on-hand to watch Kuo throw his second bullpen of the spring and to chat with him afterwards.

"He's a guy that's been around, had a great deal of success,'' Wedge said. "We just want him to listen to his body, to listen to his arm and know that he doesn't have to jump headfirst into it.''

Others who threw bullpen sessions today included James Paxton, Danny Hultzen and Taijuan Walker. I'll have a story on Paxton in tomorrow's paper.

Also had a chance to watch Jesus Montero in the batting cage a bit. GM Jack Zduriencik pulled up in his golf cart to watch the end of that.

Montero got hold of a few, missed a few and took a good deal of pitches. Typical early camp stuff.
