Former Mariners manager Daren Brown, hitting coach Alonzo Powell, catching co-ordinator Roger Hansen resume prior minor league duties
Posted by Geoff Baker
The Mariners have announced their 2011 minor league staffs and the bigger names are men who worked with Seattle in interim roles at the major league level last year.
Daren Brown is returning to manage Class AAA Tacoma, with Alonzo Powell as his hitting instructor. Brown took over for former manager Don Wakamatsu when the latter was fired in August. Powell had replaced M's hitting coach Alan Cockrell in early May.
Roger Hansen (photo below) had moved up to become Mariners bench coach under Brown, but resumes his former role as Seattle's roving minor league catching instructor. Most levels have returning managers, but Class A Everett will see former coach Scott Steinmann take over as field boss.
Other new staffers include Class AA Jackson manager Jim Pankovits, and coach Cory Snyder. Former big league utility-man Mike Kinkade, who played for AAA Tacoma in 2008, will join the Everett staff in his first coaching role.
