Sorry, I fell behind tonight while waiting to do an appearance on FSN's Batting Practice program. I'm telling you, the show business life is not all glamour and parties.
The good news for the Mariners is that Michael Saunders is starting to improve offensively, getting two hits last night against All-Star Jered Weaver and hitting .303 (10-for-33) with eight walks in his last 11 games sinced July 3. That doesn't even include a two-homer game at Yankee Stadium just prior to that stretch.
The bad news, however, is that Saunders is out of the lineup tonight, and probably tomorrow, with a jammed right middle finger. He suffered the injury scrambling back to first base when he was picked off by Weaver in Friday's game. He's day to day, though the injury is not believed to be serious. Saunders finished the game but the finger was swollen and stiff afterward.
Ryan Langerhans gets the start in left tonight in Saunders' place. Langerhans hasn't started since July 1, and hasn't batted since July 7. Milton Bradley, who has a sore left knee, is limited to DH duties.
Russ Branyan, who hurt his toe on Thursday, took BP today and may be available tomorrow, Wakamatsu said.
Mike Sweeney joined Tacoma tonight in Reno on a rehab assignment. Sweeney is on the Dl with lower back spasms.
