Stay tuned for Geoff Baker Live! tonight at 7 p.m. Pacific time

Not much of a game for the Mariners today, with the pitching of Ian Snell taking them out of the game early on.

Mariners manager Don Wakamatsu just said down on the field that Jack Hannahan has had another setback and won't be able to start the regular season on-time.

Hannahan was supposed to take groundballs today, but, after starting the exercise, felt stiffness in the area where he strained his groin.

"He's a little stiff, so we're going to check him out a little bit,'' Wakamatsu said. "It's been sort of a lingering thing. So, we're going to check him out a little bit deeper to see if there's not something more serious in there. It just didn't feel like he was 100 percent. We thought it would kind of be a little bit more advanced than that right now.''

Wakmatsu was then asked whether there was any way Hannahan could be ready for the start of the season.

"I wouldn't think so,'' he said.

Hannahan will be re-evaluated. But it's going to come down to a battle between Matt Tuiasosopo and Josh Wilson for that backup infield job.

Wakamatsu wasn't all that impressed with Snell early on, especially in that five-run second inning.

"I thought Ian was up with most of his pitches, nothing real sharp,'' Wakamatsu said. "But again, that he battled back and didn't walk anybody I thought was important.''

The Mariners uncharacteristically ran themselves out of a few situations today. We saw Ichiro single to lead off the game, then slip and fall as he took a wide turn at first base. He was caught in a rundown and eventually bolted for the dugout -- drawing laughs from the fans and opposing players -- rather than be inevitably tagged out.

That could be attributed to a simple balance mishap.

In Rob Johnson's case, he got tagged out after a Chone Figgins single with two on and two out. Johnson had been at second, Ichiro at first, on the single to right. Johnson took a turn at third and saw Ichiro agressively round second. But Ichiro eventually stopped and headed back to his bag while Johnson, not as fleet of foot, could not make it back after realizing that he'd gone too far off third.

"Those are things that happen in spring training,'' Wakamatsu said. "Hopefully, it will get better as the year goes on.''

Wakamatsu otherwise liked Johnson's performance behind the plate and at the plate and will try to get him in back-to-back games later in the week.
