M's lineup out --- Wilson still not in it, but he says he's ready to go UPDATED

Posted by Bob Condotta

10:20 A.M. UPDATE --- Back from spending some time watching drills and a few notes to pass along.

--- .Scratch Eric Byrnes from the lineup below. Apparently he has the flu. Put Michael Saunders in his place.

--- Felix Hernandez will throw a simulated game at 11:30 a.m., apparently against live batters. If all goes well, sounds as if he will make his first start this spring in one of the games in Tucson Sunday or Monday.

--- Lots of work on relays this morning during the fielding drills and Rob Johnson was catching, Jack Wilson at SS and Jose Lopez at third.

ORIGINAL POST --- Not a perfect day here today, but trending toward being more spring-like and no doubts about getting the noon (Seattle time) game in against the Indians.

The lineup has been posted, and it may catch your eye that Jack Wilson is still not in it.

Wilson, however, said this morning that there's nothing to worry about, that his hamstring is fine and as far as he knows, he's not playing simply because this is a day they are giving some other regulars a rest, such as his double-play mate Chone Figgings --- Ichiro also is sitting out, for instance, as is Casey Kotchman as manager Don Wakamatsu has said he'd rather play regulars a lot every other day (seven innings or so) rather than just three innings every day. Wilson hasn't played since Friday when he pulled himself out for hamstring irritation, which initially set off some alarms because Wilson has had hamstring issues in the past.

"I'm perfectly ready to go,'' he said. "Yesterday I did a full round (of drills) and I'm fine. It was just a bit of tightness (last week) and it went away within a day. Just precautionary.''

Here's the lineup:
Corey Patterson, LF
Eric Byrnes, RF
Jose Lopez, 3B
Ken Griffey, DH
Ryan Garko, 1B
Franklin Gutierrez, CF
Matt Tuiasosopo, SS
Guillermo Quiroz, C
Nick Franklin, 2B
Jason Vargas, P

The big intrigue today is obviously seeing how Lopez responds a day after struggles against the Brewers. We also get to see Tuiasosopo again at short after a solid outing there Monday against the White Sox.

Also of note is Franklin, one of the first-round picks of last June, who is a Minor League call-up for the day.

And Gutierrez is also getting a second straight start, as Wakamatsu had promised earlier in the week, after going for the first time on Monday against the White Sox after sitting out earlier with a sore shoulder.
