Greetings from the baseball winter meetings, where I'm now told -- despite what we say in the video above -- that Chone Figgins will not be coming to Indianapolis for the announcement of his deal. The team is still awaiting the results of the Figgins physical taken yesterday and then should have the official word of the deal later today. See? We are keeping you up-to-date, even updating our own video before it airs. But enjoy the video anyway. We shot it this morning.

Word in the hallways here is that the three-way Curtis Granderson deal between the Tigers, Yankees and D-Backs may be back on. The Mariners had been interested in Granderson, but if you look at the asking price, you may understand why Seattle would be reluctant to go any further down this road.

The Yankees would be giving up four prospects to get Granderson, at least in the deal that was scuttled late last night.

The Mariners, you may recall, gave up five guys to get Erik Bedard a couple of winters ago. Given the names I'm seeing mentioned, I could see the M's having the guys to put a competitive package together.

But would GM Jack Zduriencik want to make a deal like that? A deal with Bill Bavasi-like potential to blow up on him? As good as Granderson is and would look in Seattle's outfield, he's not exactly coming off his best year.

And really, do the Mariners want to have to start thinking about trading away Brandon Morrow, Mark Lowe, Phillippe Aumont and Josh Fields to get Granderson? Or, maybe one less arm and a position player -- say, Carlos Triunfel -- to make it happen? For both Granderson and Edwin Jackson, you might think about it. You may think about it even more if catcher Gerald Laird was thrown in there.

But four guys for Granderson alone is getting really dicey. Even if the M's would receive another body back in such a deal the way the Yankees were getting.

Remember, Bedard was a guy coming off the best season of his career. Granderson is not. As good a fit as Granderson would be on this team and in the outfield, there is always a ceiling at which you have to say "No'' and walk away. I'm starting to think that ceiling might have been reached here. The Tigers are asking an awful lot for both Granderson and Jackson from an individual perspective.

But that word, perspective, also means different things to different teams.

The Mariners would see three No.1 draft picks, all pitchers, and a big leaguer (Lowe) ready to be a closer in a Morrow-Lowe-Aumont-Fields package. On the other hand, the Tigers could view it as three relief pitchers, two of which are in the minors and a guy in Morrow who has yet to prove he can start effectively.

Like they say, the beauty is in the eye of the beholder. Let's see what happens with the Yanks-D-Backs-Tigers scenario this afternoon.
