Peoria could not overcome that two-run deficit, but gave it a shot. Dustin Ackley roped his second hit of the day into left field in the ninth to load the bases with one out. But a strikeout and then a groundout by Mariners prospect Juan Diaz ended the game.

Quite a debut for Ackley. Both of his singles were the opposite way to left.

"I've always seemed to be a guy who stays late, then tries to find a hole up the middle or backside,'' Ackley said.

Phillippe Aumont retired the side 1-2-3 in the eighth on a foul pop-up, a flyout and a groundout. Did not waste any time on the mound.
