UPDATE: The Mariners just traded Jamie Burke to the Washington Nationals for cash considerations.

They just played the seventh inning stretch a second time -- or is it the 14th inning stretch? The last time these two teams did that was last month, remember? Shawn Kelley tossed two scoreless innings and El Buffalo is warming up in the bullpen. He's due in next if the M's can't figure out how to score off Scott Linebrink.

The Mariners announced they have hired Jeff Kingston away from the San Diego Padres as an assistant GM to Jack Zduriencik. Kingston, 32, has spent the past nine seasons with the Padres as a Director of Baseball Operations, specializing in areas like payroll, roster, and budget management. In other words, he'll be taking over a lot of the duties left behind by the resignation of Lee Pelakoudas a couple of weeks ago.

"I am excited to add Jeff to our front office staff,'' Zduriencik said in a release. "He has assisted in several capacities with San Diego and his skill set and diversity will aid this organization as we move forward.

6:51 p.m.: Great job over two innings by Mark Lowe to keep this a 3-3 game as we head to the bottom of the 12th. Didn't look good last inning when he began by issuing the fourth walk of the game (!) to Chris Getz, but a double-play erased that. The M's are running out of arms. They have Shawn Kelley in the bullpen, of course, and he'll come on next if Seattle can't score. After that, they've got Luke French (a long guy they'd rather not use today) and...Carlos Silva, baby.

6:25 p.m.: Interesting last few innings we've had, all tied up at 3-3 here in the 11th.

The Mariners trailed by a pair heading into the ninth, but closer Bobby Jenks came on and yielded home runs to Jose Lopez and Bill Hall that knotted things up. Prior to that, the Mariners had managed just a solo homer by Adrian Beltre over eight innings tossed by Chicago starter John Danks.

Yep, it's days like this by closers that drive teams nuts. Although, for the White Sox, they have already been driven nuts by other stuff, like the Alex Rios contract, their popping-off manager and a team playing like it doesn't care all that much.

5:18 p.m.: Brandon Morrow got pulled with two on and two out in the sixth and Jason Vargas came on and got the strikeout to keep it a 3-0 game, the White Sox still leading. Seattle has just two hits in six innings off John Danks.

Meanwhile, what was up with Morrow walking Chris Getz three times? I mean, Getz isn't a serious threat like that namesake New York subway vigilante back in the 1980s. He's a sub-.700 OPS guy, for heaven's sake! Though his OBP keeps going up, thanks to afternoons like this one. More of a pesty type, I guess, like Mel Gibson's sidekick in Lethal Weapon. Remember that guy? "They (bleep) you at the drive thru!''

Oh, well. Whatever Chris wants, Chris Getz, right? Guess he wanted some walks today.

4:49 p.m.: Seattle trails 3-0 midway through the fifth. Brandon Morrow has walked five batters today, including Gordon Beckham to lead off the fifth. He came around to score on a Mark Kotsay single off Jose Lopez's glove. That's the second leadoff walk to come back to bite Morrow today.

4:14 p.m.: Seattle trails 1-0 after two innings. Brandon Morrow has displayed some early command problems, issuing three walks the first two frames. One of those cost him in the first as a walk to Scott Podsednik to lead off the game was followed by a single to left by Gordon Beckham. Left fielder Bill Hall bobbled the ball, allowing the speedy Podsednik to take third on the error. He wound up scoring on a sacrifice fly by A.J. Pierzynski. Morrow got out of a bases loaded jam in the second on a hard grounder that Jose Lopez made a nice stab on at first base.

Morrow needs to do better.

We'll see a new look from the team today as Adam Moore gets his first start behind the plate, teaming in a battery with Brandon Morrow just as they did in Class AAA. Also, we'll have Matt Tuiasosopo starting at second base while Jose Lopez moves to first.

Mariners manager Don Wakamatsu wants to get as many right handed bats in there as possible against White Sox lefty John Danks. Wakamatsu says that where Tuiasosopo might play next year has a lot to do with what the team does over the winter.

The Mariners originally had Tuiasosopo play about a month's worth of second base at Class AAA because they viewed that as a utility option for him since Adrian Beltre was already at third. Beltre will likely move on as a free agent, so Tuiasosopo will get consideration at third base.

But the Mariners would also like to see how he does at second, to keep their options open as they move ahead.

"He's still going to have to prove to us that he can hit at this level,'' Wakamatsu said. "And that's going to be first and foremost. I know he's athletic enough to make the adjustments at a different position. But he's going to have to hit.''

The Mariners have long thought that Tuiasosopo has the athleticism to play some middle infield.

"That's kind of a thought process going in,'' Wakamatsu said. "He came up as a shortstop and he's played a little at second.''

Bill Hall is in the lineup today, having gone through batting practice with no further problems from his tight quad muscle.
