Brandon Morrow to start for Seattle on Friday
Posted by Geoff Baker
No, this is not a joke. I know some of you are laughing, some not. But Brandon Morrow is being recalled from Class AAA and will start for the Mariners on Friday in Texas.
Luke French goes to the bullpen.
Stephen Bray will start that playoff game for AAA Tacoma.
The reason? Chris Jakubauskas is not doing well with that sore shoulder, Sean White is having an MRI back in Seattle and the Mariners need bullpen insurance. They don't have all that much confidence in Miguel Batista right now and the promotion of Morrow enables them to keep French in the bullpen for long relief purposes along with Jason Vargas.
To recap, for those of you not tuning in the last 72 hours. Don Wakamatsu said on Sunday that Morrow would start Friday in Texas. GM Jack Zduriencik said told us yesterday that Morrow was going to start the playoff game, to gain some experience in that playoff realm among other things. Wakamatsu later said the team had some concerns about a blister and some forearm tightness Morrow was experiencing.
Interesting times we live in.
And now, today, that's all changed.
Obviously, the events of last night and recent days have had something to do with that. Batista got lit up in Oakland, then allowed the winning run last night on a single. Moments earlier, he nearly threw the game away on a wild-pitch during an intentional walk situation.
