Sweeney goes to DL to make room for Bedard (and lineups)
Posted by Tom Wyrwich
To open a spot on the roster for today's return of starter Erik Bedard, the Mariners have placed Mike Sweeney on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to Monday, with back spasms.
Sweeney tweaked his back in Sunday's loss to Boston. The move leaves the Mariners with 13 pitchers -- including six starters -- and 12 position players.
Here are today's lineups:
Orioles (36-47)
Adam Jones CF
Nick Markakis RF
Ty Wigginton 2B
Aubrey Huff 1B
Nolan Reimold LF
Luke Scott DH
Melvin Mora 3B
Matt Wieters C
Robert Andino SS
RHP Jeremy Guthrie (6-8, 5.20)
Mariners (43-39)
Ichiro RF
Russell Branyan 1B
Jose Lopez 2B
Ken Griffey Jr. DH
Franklin Gutierrrez CF
Ryan Langerhans LF
Rob Johnson C
Chris Woodward 3B
Ronny Cedeno SS
LHP Erik Bedard (5-2, 2.47)
