Felix Hernandez to face Texas next week
Posted by Geoff Baker
Start speading the news. The Mariners are officially in trouble on this road trip. Two straight losses here and C.C. Sabathia going up against them tomorrow. Jason Vargas will have his hands full. Speaking of Vargas, the team has indeed decided to juggle its starting rotation around next week.
Erik Bedard will start Tuesday, as we told you earlier. Vargas will now get pushed back an extra day and start Wednesday against Baltimore.
That means Felix Hernandez also gets bumped back a day and will open the Rangers series on an extra day's rest.
So, the M's will indeed send their two "best'' starters, Hernandez and Bedard, to the hill against Texas. Jarrod Washburn will face them too.
First, of course, the Mariners will have to start taking care of business on this road trip, now 2-3, or else those games versus the Rangers might not have the same meaning.
Who's the odd man out? Looks like Garrett Olson, but that's yet to be announced. Olson goes on Saturday in Boston.
By the way, if you were wondering, Franklin Gutierrez told me he thought the count was full instead of 2-2 when he took off for second base (actually he jogged it over) after a ball to Wladimir Balentien. He admitted that's the first time he ever thought a walk had occured when an at-bat was still going on.
Happens. But it hurts.
