Most of the non-Beltre talk in the clubhouse was about Felix Hernandez's dominating performance.

Here's what catcher Rob Johnson had to say: "His stuff was unbelievable,'' His four-seamer was cutting like crazy. It cut six inches. His sinker was sinking a foot. It was unbelievable. Like I told Wak, his ball was doing crazy stuff, but it's so much fun.''

Here's what Don Wakamatsu had to say: "Felix was just outstanding. We're talking about him getting better and better, and I think this game was the best I have seen his stuff. He was just dominating. His off-speed stuff, his fastball, was electric.

"Just the way he took the mound, the way he has been taking the mound, I can't say enough about him. Especially after last night's loss, for him to come out and face an awfully good team and just dominate them.''

He added that Hernandez "is pitching at the top of his game, probably as good as anyone in the game. It's awfully impressive to watch.

Is he an All-star? "No doubt."

And here's what Felix had to say: "I couldn't find the feel for my breaking ball, and the command of my fastball was not there in the first two innings. After that, everything was good.''

I didn't have a super-long time in the clubhouse because of tight deadlines on Saturday night. Adrian Beltre did stop briefly as he exited the clubhouse and said he might play one final game on Sunday. Again, his surgery has been scheduled for Tuesday.

I asked him what made him make the decision to cut short his season.

"The fact I don't think I can help the team like I wanted to, every day on the field. It got to the point it's really painful. My contribution won't be enough to help the team win. Hopefully I can get it fixed and come back 100 percent. I talked to my family, discussed it. I came to conclusion last night I was going to do it, and came in early and told Skip.''

Wakamatsu's reaction: "He has played with a lot of pain. He brings a lot of presence to the lineup. The last three or four weeks, he started swinging the bat, and we're going to miss him a lot.

"This club has responded to a lot of tragedy and a lot of hard times, and we'll be OK. We will miss him, no doubt. The last couple of days, he would have a good day and then a bad day. Even throwing the ball around the infield you could see him favoring his shoulder."

Wakamatsu said that if Beltre doesn't go Sunday, Chris Woodward would likely get the start. But no word on what he'll do long-term at the position.
