Ryan Rowland-Smith officially optioned to Class AAA

This is more a roster tidy-up move than anything, but Ryan Rowland-Smith has officially been taken off the 15-day DL and optioned to Class AAA Tacoma. That tells you something about his standing with the team right now. Rowland-Smith had expected to be up here and pitching more than three weeks ago, but the club has not been pleased with his progress in the minors.

His velocity is down and his change-up is not where he needs it to be. You only get 30 days on minor league rehab assignments, so this was a move that had to be made.

The fact that the team would rather have four innings of Brandon Morrow than throw Rowland-Smith back in the rotation tells you all you need to know. Anyhow, he makes a start for Tacoma tonight. Let's see how that goes.
