Guillermo Quiroz gets the call from AA, Kenji Johjima to DL for Mariners
Posted by Geoff Baker
The headline says it all. The Mariners have opted to call up journeyman minor leaguer Guillermo Quiroz, a onetime top prospect with Toronto, from Class AA to fill the void left by Kenji Johjima's injury. Johjima goes to the 15-day DL and pitcher Cesar Jimenez is transferred to the 60-day DL.
Yeah, Jimenez is in worse shape than we thought.
This is clearly being done to spare Adam Moore from a rushed call-up. Quiroz has major league experience and was recently brought back for his second stint with Seattle's organization. Another Venezuelan for the growing contingent as well.
