Mariner notebook: Injury might end Adrian Beltre's season
The Gold Glove third baseman was placed on the 15-day disabled list and might need surgery after an injury to a testicle

Mariners third baseman Adrian Beltre might miss the rest of the season after taking a hard one-hopper to his groin off the bat of a White Sox player Thursday night.
Manager Don Wakamatsu said the Gold Glove third baseman is out indefinitely, and might need surgery because of bleeding in a testicle. Beltre does not wear a protective cup because he says it's uncomfortable.
If Beltre needs surgery, he could be out for an extended time. If there's no surgery, he would need 10 days to two weeks to recover.
Beltre stayed in the game after the ninth-inning injury and scored the winning run in the Mariners' 1-0 victory 14 innings.
"It hurt pretty bad," Beltre said. "It was hurting me pretty much the whole game after that."
Told that he was brave for continuing to play, he quipped: "I don't know about brave. Maybe stupid."
Beltre was placed on the 15-day disabled list. He was also on the DL from June 30-Aug. 4 because of surgery on his left shoulder.
Notes
• Infielder Josh Wilson was brought up from AAA Tacoma to take Beltre's place on the roster. Jack Hannahan started at third base Thursday night.
• Shortstop Jack Wilson has a torn upper hamstring. He will miss at least a few days and might have to go on the DL, too.
