AL | Yankees Chien-Ming Wang leaves game with shoulder trouble

Chien-Ming Wang's next start is in jeopardy after the New York right-hander left early against Toronto.

NEW YORK — Yankees starter Chien-Ming Wang left Saturday's game against the Toronto Blue Jays with a strained right shoulder, putting his next start in jeopardy.

Wang allowed four runs and six hits before he was replaced in the sixth inning. Wang, who missed time earlier this season with weakness in the adductor muscles in his hips, went for an MRI that revealed the shoulder strain and bursitis.

"It was unfortunate because I thought today was his best start," said manager Joe Girardi, who wasn't sure what the Yankees would do about Wang's next turn in the rotation. "He'll need some rest."

Wang also had shoulder problems in 2001 and 2005.

The Yankees could turn to Phil Hughes or Alfredo Aceves if Wang can't make his next start.

Wang, who won 38 games from 2006-07, is 1-6 with a 9.64 earned-run average in 12 games this year.

Notes

• The Yankees commemorated the 70th anniversary of Lou Gehrig's luckiest man speech, with SS Derek Jeter reading the icon's stirring words during a video tribute at Yankee Stadium.

• Toronto RHP Roy Halladay equaled a career worst by allowing three homers against the Yankees. It was his second start since coming off the disabled list.

• Blue Jays RHP Scott Richmond went on the 15-day DL with a sore shoulder.

• Minnesota RHP Kevin Slowey will see a doctor on Monday about his strained right wrist, which sent him to the DL after Friday's game.

• Texas OF Josh Hamilton, rehabbing in the minor leagues after abdominal surgery, hopes to return to the Rangers Monday. Texas opens a series against the Mariners at Safeco Field on Thursday.

• When Cleveland OF Shin-Soo Choo had four runs, seven RBI and a stolen base Friday night, he became only the third player to do it since 1945, joining Hall of Famers Ted Williams (1949) and Willie Stargell (1968), according to the Elias Sports Bureau.
