Pacific Coast League | Rainiers' home runs beat Portland, 5-3
Four solo home runs by the Tacoma Rainiers helped them beat Portland 5-3 in a Pacific Coast league game.
TACOMA — Prentice Redman, Jeff Clement, Brad Nelson and Bryan LaHair hit solo home runs as the Tacoma Rainiers beat Portland 5-3 in a Pacific Coast League game before 4,669 at Cheney Stadium Thursday night.
The long-ball support was just enough for starter Ryan Rowland-Smith (2-3) and four Rainiers relievers.
Rowland-Smith gave up a run and eight hits before leaving with one out in the sixth. The left-hander struck out three, walked one and lowered his earned-run average to 5.91.
Randy Messenger retired all four batters he faced for his 15th save.
Callix Crabbe had a double and triple for Tacoma (38-42).
